Student Dreams
Finding the Best Fit College For You
Student Dreams is a card game where you and the people you play with take on the role of college counselors. All of you look at various students' wants and the barriers they may face or currently have
while applying to different colleges. Your job is to select a college based on their background and wants, while keeping in mind those barriers that could affect their admission process. As you learn about
each student, you may find that it's hard to find the "perfect" fit. As a team, you'll discuss how each of your suggestions fits the student in different ways and rank them in order of which college the student
should prioritize applying to.
This game was made in collaboration with our client Jeffery Selingo as part of DePaul's GAM 440: Games with a Purpose Bootcamp class.
Gameplay Overview
Each player starts with five College Cards. These cards have various information about colleges found in Jeffery Selingo's book, Dream School. Players will then draw a Student Card, which gives basic information on a fictional high school student which includes their hobbies and interests. Players then reveal two Student Wants Cards and two Barrier Cards. This gives information on the students wants when looking for colleges and any challenges they are facing in regards to their college search respectively. Each player must then choose a College Card from their hand that they think is best fit for the student and give their reasoning to the rest of the group. Play continues until players run out of College Cards in their hand.
